Barcelona, 9th April 2025.

The Board of Directors of EUROFER, which represents steel producers in the European Union, has appointed Jordi Cazorla, CEO of Celsa Group, as its Vice President. The appointment, unanimously approved and effective immediately, comes at a crucial time for the sector in Europe. The steel industry currently faces several challenges, including tariff pressures from the U.S. government, the growing deindustrialization of the continent, and steel imports from third countries.

In recent weeks, Cazorla has participated in several high-level institutional events across Europe, such as the Strategic Dialogue on Steel, chaired by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and the visit on March 14 by Stéphane Séjourné, the EU’s Internal Market Commissioner and Head of the Industrial Strategy, to Celsa Group’s facilities in Castellbisbal.

This appointment reaffirms Celsa’s strategic position as a key voice in advocating for the industry’s needs during a particularly critical situation for the European steel sector.

Jordi Cazorla stated: “I would like to thank the members of EUROFER for this appointment, which I accept with a deep sense of responsibility and a firm belief that we are at a pivotal moment for the future of our industry. My goal is to work collaboratively to address the most pressing challenges and to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of our sector, by defending the interests of all steel producers and promoting strong actions to halt deindustrialization and loss of competitiveness.”

Celsa reaffirms its leadership and institutional influence

Celsa Group is a leading producer of low-emission circular steel and the largest steel producer in Europe. After one year in office, Jordi Cazorla has had several opportunities to highlight the sector’s needs, including at the Strategic Dialogue on Steel held on March 4. Later, he presented the industry’s challenges to Vice President Séjourné during the planning of the Steel and Metals Action Plan, a roadmap aimed at restoring the sector’s competitiveness.

This week, a new Strategic Dialogue on Steel took place, again chaired by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, focused on assessing the sector’s response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. Jordi Cazorla participated to share concrete measures to ensure the industry’s sustainability in the current trade environment.

Jordi Cazorla also serves on the Executive Committee of UNESID, alongside representatives of Spain’s five largest steel producers. UNESID represents all steel manufacturing companies in the country.

Celsa is currently the sixth-largest European producer of long steel products and holds the highest level of vertical integration in scrap and steel derivative products in Europe. As a sector leader, it continues to reinforce its position in defending both the industry’s competitiveness and its long-term sustainability, from both a business and institutional standpoint.
