Mahou San Miguel receives the Award for Industrial Excellence granted by Celsa and the IESE

Barcelona, July 6, 2017

  • The brewery, a 100% Spanish family company, receives the Award for Industrial Excellence that Celsa Group™ and the IESE business school give away each year.
  • This award recognizes the work of Spanish industrial companies that contribute to economic competitiveness.

Mahou San Miguel has been recognized as the company with the best, most developed industrial strategy and has contributed the most to economic competitiveness in 2017. The Award for Industrial Excellence, promoted by Celsa Group™ -the first Spanish steel group- together with the IESE business school, has stressed that the company´s strategy is based on pillars and solid values that are consistently declining in terms of trade and industry.

There are three points that have been considered by the jury. On one hand, it has a firm commitment in the long term with the maintenance of all open plants in the worst years of economic crisis, also taking advantage of industrial footprints to increase its competitiveness. On the other hand, it has an excellent entry strategy in emerging markets. And last and most important, it has an innovative vocation that represents its participation in the market of artisanal beers.

Mahou San Miguel will now compete for the Industrial Excellence Award Europe – promoted by prestigious business schools and with more than fifteen years of history – in front of other award-winning corporations in other countries like France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Turkey.

The other two finalists for this award were Jeanología, the leader in sustainable and efficient finishing technologies for the textile industry, coding, packaging, and other industrial applications, with a valued proposition rich in services and always customer-centered; and TMB Bus, a municipal public company from the City Council of Barcelona that manages public transport (bus, metro and tram) in the city, with a redesigning project of the bus network, a success in the improvement of the service and for satisfaction of citizens.

The event, which was attended by the Minister Delegate d’ACCIÓ, Joan Romero, the general director of the IESE Business School, Franz Heukamp and the president of Celsa Group, Francesc Rubiralta, has mobilized top-level executives of industrial companies.

Francesc Rubiralta has thanked the participants for their “contribution to the dynamism of our country´s economy” and has recalled that Celsa Group™ and the IESE, through the Celsa Chair ‘Competitiveness in Manufacturing’, have been leading the initiative in Spain for years with the Industrial Excellence Award Spain.

These awards were born nine years ago to recognize the exceptional results from those companies that are committed to the most advanced and value-generating business for society. Each year, the quality of the projects presented, and the examples of the award-winning companies show that the transforming capacity of our industries is a proven fact and a real accelerator for the economic growth of our country,” he concluded.
